I’m Jamie Flett, a music maker from Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland, now living in Glasgow.

Since my first collection of skewed, folkish blues songs: ‘Cold But Bright’ I’ve tried to resist the artificial limitations of being defined as a ‘singer-songwriter’ (admittedly, while writing and singing songs.)  So I’ve tried exploring some remoter sonic territories, releasing three further solo albums, a ‘live’-ish album, a series of singles obstinately unconnected with any of these albums, an interview / improvisation project for Glasgow-based experimental radio station Radiophrenia, occasional sound pieces for the Lights Out Listening Group which have been, in turn, included in the ‘Colliding Lines’ program on Resonance FM, contributions to the ‘Remembrance of Lost Species’ compilations, playing a live experimental soundscape with Safetynett for ‘Ambient Audiences’ at the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh and I’ve worked on various collaborations including recording and playing live with the genre-melting Safetynett and making an album of music from a fictional peninsula with avant-savant Richard Youngs.

I’ve continued playing live in various acoustic and electric formats solo, in varying configurations with shape-shifting coalition The Flaming Jets or with Safetynett.  Along the way I’ve supported Joan Armatrading, Malcolm Middleton and more recently Scottish Album of the Year Award winner Kathryn Joseph. I’ve set up the micro label ‘Rain Goose Recordings’ to release some of the auditory explorations of friends and collaborators “despite the basic failure of economics inherent in doing so.”

I still sing songs.
